Technology Transfer in Aristotle University (AUTh)

One of the most important aspects of the University mission is to use and disseminate research results for the benefit of the general public.

Technology transfer includes the concession of licensing and/or the transfer of technical knowledge rights protected by patents. The term also encompasses all areas of technical, industrial or commercial applications, information and/or knowledge – such as non-licensed technical knowledge – know-how or skills. The utilization of results is achieved by diffusing new knowledge, publishing research results, securing advanced know-how methods by issuing the relevant patents and utility models, and drafting technology transfer contracts.

In this context, the University Research Committee maintains and updates the existing data policy on technology transfer with the following objectives:

  • to safeguard new and useful knowledge resulting from research activities in AUTh through the issuing of patents, patents of modification and utility models certificates, as well as general know-how;
  • to grant licenses to private and public bodies for commercial exploitation and utilization;
  • to provide financial recognition for scientists’ research and educational contributions, through funds from patent licensing.
